How a straight fence // gets built

Every fence starts with a pulled line.

The name says it. Here is how a run goes from bare yard to a gate that latches, in five steps.

From stakes to gate
  1. Stake it and pull the line

Corners, ends and gate openings get a stake. A string line is pulled tight between them, and the post spots are marked along it.

  2. Set the posts

Every post goes in plumb, with its face just touching the line. That is what keeps a long run straight when you sight down it.

  3. Hang the rails

Rails tie the posts together, level across flat ground or stepped with the grade where the yard slopes.

  4. Board it up

Boards, vinyl panels, chain link fabric or aluminum sections go on, one bay at a time, with even spacing.

  5. Hang the gate. Finish it clean.

The gate is braced and hung so the latch lines up. Caps go on, offcuts get picked up, and you walk the fence with us.
